Another successful "grounding technique" which can be helpful to people suffering from Anxiety, is called "Self Safe Hypnosis". It is used primarily with people who have flashbacks and nightmares. It can be used in times of stress.
It involves sitting quietly and observing the things around you. It does not matter if you get them out of order, or if you just think about them or if you wisper them to yourself. Just use the following as a basis to work with;
Say five things you can see around you
Say five things you can feel around you
Say five things you can hear around you
Say four things you can see around you
Say four things you can feel around you
Say four things you can hear around you
Say three things you can see around you
Say three things you can feel around you
Say three things you can hear around you
Say two things you can see around you
Say two things you can feel around you
Say two things you can hear around you
Say one thing you can see around you
Say one thing you can feel around you
Say one thing you can hear around you
By the time that you have finished this sequence of observations, you should have a good amount of control over your state of mind.
You may even wish to combine this exercise with the correct breathing techniques to help you to gain control of you emotions and your state of mind.
